Etowah Valley Historical Society has taken on an ambitious project to document every community that existed from the founding of the county. Communities are defined as hamlets, villages or incorporated towns / cities. Some locations have long disappeared and others still remain if only in signage, oral history and a few scant land marks. To qualify for inclusion a community must have had a central anchor that drew people together such as a post office, railroad stop, church, business / store or school. We continue to add sites and update others as information is revealed.
