      The first full-length biography of the Union officer who was "the true, unsung hero" of the Battle of Allatoona: Colonel Rowett, of the 7th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. After the war, Rowett returned to Carlinville, Illinois, and became a nationally-recognized breeder of thoroughbred horses, including the 1889 Kentucky Derby winner. He also introduced true-bred beagle hounds to the United States from his native England.
