1st time in 77 years (!), folks, that In The Valley will be opened to the public for view. This was Corra Harris’s wish but the money to keep it open ran out in 1949. EVHS Volunteers have subsequently volunteered 3500+ hours over the last 3 years, clearing & repairing & replacing & painting & adding & planting at this 54-acre estate. To make it amenable to public view. We think (we hope!) we are ready for prime time!
This initial Event is FIRST being offered to the locals; to the Pine Log/Rydal Community, as promised. Many Pine Log neighbors have driven by this estate on Mt Pleasant Rd for years, know all about it but have never had a chance to visit it. Now’s your chance.
- We will have parking on the grounds for 50-60 vehicles. *a Bartow County Patrolman will be there to help direct traffic. 50 more parking spots will be available 0.7 miles off-site, compliments of Mt Pleasant Baptist Church with a shuttle bus every 10-15 minutes to & from the estate.
- When you arrive, pick up a brochure & map of the estate and Tour Guides will take you thru the Cabin complex, Corra’s Library & her Chapel.
- We will have delicious Coconuts Ice Cream Truck there to sooth the palate for kids & adults! And a strolling fiddler for your musical delight!
- We have beautiful garden areas for the family to enjoy, benches to rest upon & gaze over these pastoral grounds, an old 1900 era buggy to admire, a 1956 Ford Model 600 tractor to take pics in front of with your kids or loved ones.
- We have 7 picnic tables for you to bring a sack lunch under the grove of cedar trees, if you’d like!
- In The Valley – a real hidden gem for everyone to now enjoy.
We do ask that prospective guests “register” ahead of time, so we can project the numbers & see if we can park everyone (!). We will probably have to “cap it” at 200. Not to worry if we are full this 1st time, as we hope to be offering this on a regular basis once we work all the details out, Can’t come this time? Look forward to future Open Houses!
