SLATE
The Slate School served the children of the mining community surrounding the slate mining operation of the Georgia Green Slate Company. Mining operations began around 1906 and it is assumed the school started soon thereafter. The Richardson Company of Lockland, Ohio purchased the mines in 1920 and operated under the trade name of Flexatile. Both the community and the school adopted that name.
