This mill on Stamp Creek was one of the first in Cass County after the removal of the Cherokees. John W. Lewis built his in the late 1830s. It was called Lewis Merchant Mill and had a water wheel that turned a grist mill. Purchased by R.H. Jones & sons after the War, it operated as a sawmill, making wagons, wheels & caskets.
